Roger Cockram is an innovative potter who has been working in North Devon for 40 years and has developed his own individual approach to ceramics and along the way an international reputation for his work. He studied Ceramics at Harrow School of Art, gaining his Diploma in 1975. Before attending Art College, Roger was a marine scientist it was a combination of his love of the ceramic medium with his fascination for the world of natural water that was to inform his art and formed his lasting passion. His work is distinctive in that it centres on observations and abstractions from natural water. Its movements and rhythms, its colours and sense of depth and power - are all preoccupations — His interest is to explore the feelings and impressions left by an experience of the medium, rather than any figurative imagery. This represents a radical departure from his previous work. Most of his new work is now done in high temperature porcelain clay.

Roger is a Fellow of the Craft Potters Association of Great Britain. A qualified teacher and lecturer, he has exhibited widely throughout the world – and for many years been asked to lecture and demonstrate to various Art associations and in Colleges both in the UK and across Europe.
