Description: Sarah regards bookbinding as an art form in its own right. The binding should also reflect, enhance and help to define the subject matter of the book. Her quest over the years has been to create a living partnership between the book and its binding. Line, shape, colour, form and materials speak for themselves. Paper : refined and fragile. Leather : sensuous, mobile and energetic. Gold : zesty, gutsy and with a sparkle. Line and shapes : both defined by colour. Touch and feel : thrillingly tactile. Shapes, imagery and symbols dissolve and merge to evoke the books response. Sarah has a Diploma in bookbinding at Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts and worked at the British School in Rome setting up a bindery for its library. Sarah is keen to undertake commissions and undertakes restoration in cloth and linen bindings of books from 1840 onwards bound in anything other than leather.
