Description:
Roger Cockram is an innovative potter who has been working in North Devon for 30 years and has developed his own individual approach to ceramics and along the way an international reputation for his work. He studied Ceramics at Harrow School of Art, gaining his Diploma in 1975. Previously a marine zoologist, it was a combination of his love of the ceramic medium with his fascination for the world of natural water that was to inform his art and form his lasting passion. His work is distinctive in that it centres on observations and abstractions from natural water. Its movements and rhythms, its colours and textures are all preoccupations — as is the influence of water on the terrain around it and the life found in it. Roger is a Fellow of the Craft Potters Association of Great Britain and an Academician of the South West Academy of Fine and Applied Arts. A qualified teacher and lecturer, he has for many years been asked to lecture and demonstrate to various Art associations and in Colleges both in the UK and overseas.
