Description: Matthew Burt provides a comprehensive design and make service ranging from free standing pieces of furniture to room sets, entire interiors and small buildings. After garduating with a zoology degree in 1973 Matthew trained at Rycotewood College and then as an apprentice to Richard Fyson of Kencot, Oxfordshire. He runs his Wiltshire workshop with a team of highly skilled makers. Established for 28 years, he has enormous experience in working with wood, incorporating glass and metals where appropriate. Recent major projects have included the designing and making of display cabinets and seating for the Crafts Study Centre, University for the Creative Arts, and a chalet re-fit in the French Alps. Awards include the Masters Gold Award from the Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers, 5 Craft Guild Marks and in 2003 was short-listed for the Arts and Crafts in Architecture Award. Chairs have been purchased for the Permanent Collection at the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge. Matthew is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a Board Member of the Craft Development Agency, The Making.
