Name: Potter, Andrew
Category: Glass
Short Description: Blown Glass. Andrew's inspiration comes from his environment. In his glasswork he tries to portray the simple quiet energy that ancient stone circles and sea-worn pebbles convey.
Description: Over the past five years I have considerably changed as a glass artist. My outlook on producing glass has gone from being very distracted and involved in the techniques and precision side of glassmaking skills, to being more aware of my artistic skill, and using it fully. As a result of this development I have amalgamated my skill as a glassmaker and my flare as an artist to create a body of work, which now reflects my true feelings towards glass. My inspiration, as with many artists in Cornwall, comes from my environment. I enjoy taking aspects of the natural world and incorporating them in my designs, standing stones and monoliths have been a passion of mine from when I lived in Wiltshire and I first visited Avebury Stone Circle and Stonehenge, and now in Cornwall the many ancient stone circles and sea worn pebbles are still inspirational to me. In my glasswork I try to portray the simple quiet energy that the stones themselves convey. They have a strong tranquillity and reflect calm and serenity as well as a meditative presence.
