Description: Wood engraving is a relief printing process characterised by fine line and texture, cutting directly into the polished surface of end grain wood such as box, lemon, pear and holly. Hilary prints from these blocks using a hand press or by burnishing. Her subject matter ranges prodigiously through dramatic landscapes and rugged coastal scenery to domestic observations, gentle pastoral scenes, or acute socio-political comment that may be subtle or savage.
