Name: Bailey, Lynn
Category: Printmaking
Short Description: Print-maker using intaglio processes (etching, drypoint and collagraph), screen-printed details and monotype.
Description: I strive to express something about the physicality of a landscape and use it as a metaphor for the vitality of change and renewal as well as a comment on how we interact with the land. An important part of creating my artwork is the collection of samples and materials from sites that interest me - particularly Mincinglake Park in Exeter. The park is rich with layers of history and interest. For example part of the park was the largest municipal tip in Exeter in the sixties and seventies. The meadow that caps the old refuse has become important for wild plants and is a nesting site for larks. A stream passes through and emerges in a polluted state and is now refreshed by passing through a reed bed. Plants, litter and soil samples are gathered and used in the printing process, photographs are taken, sketches made and maps sought out. Images and ideas are extracted and recombined resulting in prints that often bring together many different processes in one piece. I use the process that suggests itself as the most suitable to the materials I have collected and what I wish to say. Mostly I use intaglio processes (etching, drypoint and collagraph), screen-printed details and monotype.
