Hollow wooden surfboards - made to spend a lifetime gliding across waves. |
|
Description: |
I design and make hollow wooden surfboards near Chapel Porth in Cornwall. Though they are incredible to look at they are made to spend a lifetime gliding across waves. The craftsmanship, material consideration and construction method involved creates objects that are highly functional as well as environmentally friendly. The boards are longer lasting and have a much reduced environmental impact when compared to traditional foam and fibreglass surfboards. I feel privileged as a maker, to be able to assess the environmental impact of every stage of my surfboard manufacture minimising their impact on the world we live in, from processes involved through material consideration and on to their performance. My work offers surfers an alternative, more sustainable, local and environmentally considerate option when it comes to buying a surfboard. If you are interested, please feel free to get in touch, it would be nice to hear from you. I use my off-cuts from the boards to create these fun handplanes, offering another way to enjoy our oceans and support my work. |
