Film showing: 'Blue Alchemy - Stories of Indigo' (A film by Mary Lance)

Saturday 10 March 3.30pm  

At: Phoenix Hall, Bovey Tracey.
A 2011 feature-length documentary filmed in India, Bangladesh, Mexico, Japan, El Salvador and Nigeria which looks at the rich history of the blue dye indigo. Mary Lance and Jenny Balfour-Paul will answer questions on the film after the screening.

Talk: 'Tracing the Blueprint – Explorations in Hungary and South Africa

Thursday 15 March 6.30pm  

A talk by Hilary Burns and Jacqueline Sarsby on how their textile backgrounds and lives have converged and about their travels and discoveries in South Africa and Hungary in pursuit of blue print and its history. Also see our main Jubilee Gallery exhibition, 'Blue'.

Stitch in Blue: a patchwork workshop by Hilary Burns & Sigi Thompson

Saturday 17 March 10am - 4pm  

Phoenix Hall, Bovey Tracey
Using patterned indigo fabric from South Africa, participants will make a block of hand-stitched patchwork. Suitable for beginners. Also see our main Jubilee Gallery exhibition Blue.

'Meet the Maker'

Saturday 5 May  2 - 4pm
Priscilla Trenchard will be in the Riverside Gallery to talk about her work in the Riverside gallery and the context of the Strata' archaeological project. Drop-in, free session.

Workshop: Make your own book

Saturday 19 May 

10am - 4pm. At: Phoenix Hall, Bovey Tracey.
Priscilla Trenchard hosts a day to fire your creativity. Make a book in the morning and learn about paper, cutting, folding and sewing. Get to work with your book in the afternoon - sketch, paint, collage and print. Suitable for all abilities.

Charity event: Plant Sale - In aid of the Raise the Roof Appeal

After last year’s success,  join us for another Plant Sale at the Guild.
Donations of plants/cuttings welcomed. Helpers needed to assist in running the event.

The Contemporary Craft Festival

Friday 15 – Sunday 17 June 2012 10am - 5pm 

Mill Marsh Park, Bovey Tracey, Devon
In association with the Devon Guild. The Festival has built up a loyal following of over 8000 visitors and represents nearly 200 of the UK’s finest designer makers. The additional on-site educational programme includes demonstrations, workshops for all ages, masterclasses and lectures by some of the UK’s leading names. Includes ceramics, glass, textiles, jewellery, metal, wood, plastics, mixed media, leather, recycled materials and paper.

Visit to Peter Randall-Page’s Studio

EVENT: Wednesday 4 July 10.30am -12.30pm

The renowned artist Peter Randall-Page will open the doors to his Drewsteignton studio and give a short introduction to his work. Own transport needed.

SUMMER DEMOS

Saturdays (7, 14 July - 25 August)
There will be free craft demonstrations every Saturday throughout July and August.
During the Riverside Gallery Yarner exhibition (21 July - 18 August) these will focus on traditional woodcrafts.

Free demonstrations including pole lathe turning, gypsy flower carving on a shaving horse, hurdle making, bodging and relief carving.

The Big Draw (11am - 4pm)

Event: Thursday 30 & Wednesday 31 October

Join us for a family all day drop-in and draw event as part of the national Campaign for Drawing. Activities relate  to our current exhibition of photography, based on ideas of view-finding, exploring the unknown and creating new worlds with secret maps, 3-D rivers and navigational craft.
Free, no booking required. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Glass Christmas decorations and jewellery

Workshop: Saturday 17 November 10am - 4pm

Bovey Tracey Town Hall
Devon Guild Member Kim Atherton will teach the basis of glass cutting and fusing to help you create a beautiful hanging glass Christmas decoration. You will also work with coloured glass and silver to make a simple piece of jewellery.

Writing about contemporary craft

Workshop: Wednesdays 21 & 28 November
6 - 8.30pm

How do you put your work, or the work of others, into context? What is it you want, or need to say? A two session workshop with the opportunity to discuss, and practise, what makes readable writing in the field of art and contemporary craft.

Christmas Celebration

Event: Saturday 1 December
10am - 5pm

Join us for a day of Christmas festivities. Carol singers, free mulled wine and homemade shortbreads plus food and drink tastings in the café. Select from the huge range of Christmas decorations, cards and handmade gifts in the shop too.
