About our Education
Learning about craft
-
school, colleges
&
community
The Devon Guild runs an educational charity called
Big Hand,Little Hand
.
It funds projects where professional makers can work in
schools and colleges
or
community
groups in the South West. These are usually hands-on workshops and teach techniques working in clay, textiles, print, withy-work, recycled art - and much more. Projects can tie into key areas of learning, lead to a permanent stucture, or fit to outdoor settings.
Learning though making - helps people of all ages gain confidence using design and construction skills. The creative process helps active learning about problem solving, materials and creative thinking.

exhibitions
and
events
at the Devon Guild cover the full spectrum of contemporary craft making from the traditional to the cutting edge. Our programme puts learning at its core to promote people's understanding of contemporary craft. Most exhibitions have associated
supporting notes
to help interpret the work in the gallery and put it in context. We are delighted to accommodate students from
schools and colleges
and groups from
the
community
to our exhibitions at no charge.
Please let us know in advance if you are visiting. We can supply tutors with
learning resources
for the exhibition. Groups are also very welcome to talks and workshops (there is a small fee for many of these), which are often of great value to students and emerging makers as they look at career paths plus creative and professional development issues.

projects and activities
we have organised.
