Take part in Dartington’s first Christmas Tree Festival

Dartington Hall is launching its first even Christmas Tree Festival — up to twelve Christmas trees will be specially planted in the beautiful mediaeval courtyard at Dartington Hall in December 2010. The Guild has registered its interest for this event and is inviting Members to decorate a tree along the theme of ‘ARTS’. The Festival has been kindly sponsored by Marldon Christmas Tree Farm who will be providing a five to six foot tree for each group that takes part. Members will spend the autumn gathering or making objects - not necessarily conventional Christmas decorations - which reflect your chosen theme in an imaginative and/or striking way. The trees will be displayed outside over the Christmas period so all decorations would need to be weather-proof. On a date in late November or early December (yet to be confirmed), you will be invited to bring your decorations up to Dartington Hall, together with your team of volunteer decorators, and decorate your tree. The decorating will culminate in a celebratory gathering of all participating community groups and local press, with mince pies, mulled wine and carol-singing. The event will be publicised in Dartington’s various newsletters, email bulletins and websites. In addition we anticipate around two hundred people a day, visiting the Barn cinema, White Hart, Great Hall and gardens or attending conferences and events, will see the trees and your contribution.

If you wish to take part or for more information please contact: Julia Harris, Membership and Events on 01626-832223 or via e-mail julia.harris@crafts.org.uk.

Exhibition plinths – free to a good home!

The Guild has some old exhibition plinths which we no longer use and, due to lack of storage space, would like to give away (on a first-come, first-served basis.)  If anyone is interested please contact us.  You would need to collect the plinths from the Guild.

The plinths are MDF with a white ‘plastic coat’ type paint finish, slightly scuffed and some chipped corners but still sturdy!  They are eleven plinths, all different sizes and Rachel  can let you know dimensions if you would like more details. If you would like to have a plinth or require more information please contact Rachel Mackie on 01626-832223 or on rachel.mackie@crafts.org.uk

Members Showcase Exhibitions: Monthly 2011

The Members Showcase is a solo exhibition opportunity for all Devon Guild Members.

In 2010 so far we have shown solo exhibitions by Jonathan Garratt (ceramics), Jenni Cadman (textiles), Jane Martin (jewellery), Janet Stoyel (textiles), Robert Kilvington (furniture) and collaborative work by Arwyn Jones and Iris Milward (ceramics).

The showcase room measures 540cm x 290cm and is a fantastic space for a small solo exhibition. There is a wall-mounted hanging system and plinths are available. Many Members have used the opportunity of a showcase slot to trial new work or experiment with new directions. This is also an opportunity to increase sales and a great marketing tool. Members are required to set up and take down the exhibition (this takes no more than a day on either side normally) but the Guild can provide administrative and technical guidance. We try to offer Members this opportunity every three years so if you have had a showcase exhibition in the last 2 years please allow other Members a chance.
This opportunity is based on a first-come-first-served-basis so please contact Flora Peasrson on 01626-832223 or on flora.pearson@crafts.org.uk as soon as possible if you are interested.
