Boundaries

The Devon Guild Summer Exhibition

Saturday 28 June - Sunday 7 September

Using the title Boundaries as an influence to their making the Summer Exhibition is a chance for the Members of the Devon Guild to produce new, innovative and individualistic work.
The Summer Exhibition is the cornerstone of our exhibition programme at The Guild. The Devon Guild of Craftsmen came into being in 1955 and originally began as a handful of Devon based makers exhibiting their work in a Summer Exhibition, which was at different venues throughout the county. This tradition has continued to this day and the Summer Exhibition, which is dedicated to our Members, is the highlight of our calendar. Work by over 100 of our 250 Members is usually exhibited providing the chance to see new work by leading established and emerging makers from the South West.

Playing with Fire

Saturday 20 September - Sunday 2 November

Working in association with the British Society of Enamellers and the University of the West of England (UWE) the Devon Guild's Playing with Fire will be the biggest presentation of the art of enamel to take place in the UK for many years. Central to the concept is the challenge to each artist to show pieces that take their work into new territories.

Three awards - 2 major bursaries and an opportunity to use research facilities at the University of the West of England (UWE) enamel department have challenged the exhibitors to produce exciting and innovative new works.

Talk by Elizabeth Turrell
(Senior Research Fellow, UWE)
Monday 20 October 6.30pm
Elizabeth's talk will illustrate key pieces of historical work, the development of mass production, and the emergence of enamel as a creative and expressive medium for todays visual artists.

£6/£4 Members/Friends/students Open to all. Advance booking essential.

A major UK tour will take place in 2008/9.

There will be a fully illustrated colour catalogue accompanying this exhibition.
