Guest Maker: Emma West - print on porcelain - Sat 10 Mar 2018 -Wed 25 Apr 2018

Open daily, 10am-5.30pm

A sale and display of work by our new Guest Maker, Emma West who creates prints on porcelain - her work's here for a limited time only in our craft shop.

Emma says of her craft work:
''My work in ceramics has evolved into a printmaking process using hand stitched embroidery and porcelain. I work with surface texture to convey detail and use glazes to emphasize design. The glazes are largely monochrome but have inky gradations of blues and greys which create a pictorial effect. Stitches are relatively transient and ephemeral whereas porcelain feels permanent, I like to bring the two together...

''The embroideries are all free hand stitched, often quite ‘messy’ and deliberately loose, so that threads fall where they will. I use a variety of threads, from silk to thick linen on scrim or calico to create textural depth. The initial impressions are often augmented with fresh plants, freehand marks or stamped antique print press blocks. I try to remember to play and experiment with techniques, never entirely sure how new pieces will turn out and always ready to learn from them.

''My work has, I hope, a peaceful quality whose detail stands up to scrutiny. I want to illustrate the beauty of the everyday by referencing the often overlooked and incidental.  The “freshness deep down things” in the words of Gerard Manley Hopkins.''

All work is for sale. Call us, or visit our craft shop for more details and prices: 01626 832223
