Robin is a printmaker-illustrator and Member of Devon Guild. He is fascinated by the range of marks that are possible within a small block of wood or lino and says she is always surprised by the result when the first layer of ink is rolled onto the block.
He has spent the last year and a half creating new work inspired by the Jurassic Coast of Dorset - in particular the rocky, dramatic stretches of coastline that connect Dorset to the choppy waters of the English Channel. The light and weather are constantly changing, creating intense chiaroscuro effects, and for him, the dramatic features of the cliffs and ledges form beautiful compositions.
Robin-Mackenzie-Mupe-Bay-linocut-devon-guildHis new wood engravings and linocuts are made in response to sketches and photographs made whilst exploring the coastline in all weathers. In this era of dramatic climate change he wants to present the Jurassic Coast as it appears today, charting the erosion of the coast paths and the changes to the landscape.
Cutting or engraving is very sculptural and suits the bold, dramatic compositions of the Dorset coastline. Robin is one of few wood engravers working today who embrace colour within their prints, feeling that colour is needed to capture the subtle effects of light on the coast and landscape.

All his work is for sale.
