Jude is a mosaic artist, dividing her time between South Devon and Southern Italy. She is a member of the Devon Guild of Craftsmen and regularly exhibits there, and in other galleries in the UK and also works to commission for private clients. Mostly self-taught, she has developed a style that is totally unique, using venetian glass smalti, stone, marble, gold leaf, pottery, mirror, pyrite and other minerals, paua shell, vintage china, japanese porcelain and her own ceramic tiles. She does not draw out the design but spends time selecting each piece, making decisions about composition and colour and cutting the exact shape required to fit its intended space. No grout is used which allows for a highly textural surface. Always detailed, the work has great depth and quality. The mount is integral to the piece. Perspex bolted at the corners creates a clean, contemporary look.

Inspired by travel and colour, Jude often captures the essence of a place within her mosaics. In some this expression is purely abstract, exploring colour, texture and line, while others form a narrative Japanese scene or reconstructed cityscape. She takes much inspiration from time spent in Italy; the colour and texture of its stone, the depth of turquoise in the Mediterranean and the extreme beauty of its cities. Recently she has been developing ‘de-constructed’ cityscapes which are proving very popular. Plans for the future include the use of more semi-precious stones and metals and exploring 3D with cement sculptures forming the mosaic base.
