Maker's Details - Sanders, Lizzie

Lizzie makes jewellery made of sheet metal which is folded to create spiralling structural forms.

Category: Jewellery Silver

Lizzie primarily works in sheet metal which is folded to create spiralling structural forms, a technique she invented and developed during her postgraduate studies. The sheet is not cut or broken in any way. Lizzie has sold pieces to the Science Museum in London where they are part of the permanent Mathematics collection. The symmetrical pieces start from a square and the asymmetrical from a rectangle. The forms are straight line structures capable of producing compound curves that are part of an iterated function system. The structural forms hold a unique beauty as they reflect the mathematics inherent in nature.

Lizzie aims to continue to combine these structures with other materials, using traditional techniques to create decorative objects, jewellery and vessels. She enjoys working with metal and finds its flexibility and durability very rewarding.
