Nicola Werner has been a professional potter since studying Painting at Central School of Art and training with Alan Caiger-Smith at Aldermaston Pottery in the early 80s.
She continues to work in tin-glazed earthenware, relishing the scope for colour and pattern on functional pieces, inscribed commissions, tile murals and lamps.
The Italian clay is beautifully smooth and generous to throw and is fired to 1060'c bisque and glaze which is higher than European majolica and makes a practical durable product.
She paints leaves, flowers and often birds on the tin glaze using handmade sable brushes; ever developing, flowing patterns inspired by the natural world.
Nicola works from a large studio in rural Somerset, runs day courses and sells worldwide.
