Rheanna Davison’s work explores the symbiotic nature of weaving; cooperative relationships between warp and weft, colour and texture, and yarn.

The slow methodical temperament of weaving allows her to react upon and reference the medium itself. Geometric patterns echo the topography of weaving, creating conversation between medium, material and process. Weaving provides an opportunity to create something entirely new from these fundamental elements. Blending conversations of colour with the nuance of the yarns; their cultural, visual or tactile experience. Drawing upon familiar scenes, landscape serves as an influence within Rheanna’s work. Dissecting and projecting these aesthetic directions into abstract systems and structures that connect the everyday. She sees each layer of yarn as a gestural mark, each decision made is recorded within history, the composition becoming autobiographical, echoing to the ring of a tree or a layer in stone.
