Carol is a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society and a founder member of Arts Live who promote exhibitions, performances and workshops, often combining photography, music and poetry.
Carol regards her work as meditations reflecting the environment, initially inspired by teachers Fay Godwin, Paul Hill and Thomas Joshua Cooper. She enjoys walking in and photographing the landscape, both rural and urban. An exhibition and performance celebrating 20 years of Dartmoor-inspired work by Carol and her Arts Live colleagues is planned for 2022.
Her longstanding interest in trees has resulted in her ongoing project documenting a Devon wood through photography and video. Her "Tree of Life" image has been used and exhibited by various organisations including The New York Hall of Science; The Science Museum, London; the UN summit on climate change in Paris, and the Larousse Yearbook.
Carol's photographs are in collections in this country and abroad and have been exhibited widely, including for the National Trust, The Dartmoor National Park Authority, The Royal Photographic Society and the Edinburgh Festival. London exhibitions include St. Martin-In-The-Fields, The Barbican Galleries and the Embassy of Japan.
Halsgrove has published four books of her photographs, Dartmoor Dreams, Stone Universe, Dartington Hall, and Route 66.
